Virtual school harms low income, minority students

"[T]he true role of educational equity is exposed as an educational socialism that transfers the power of achievement away from the individual and into the hands of a select few who distribute it at their will. Such a principle is not rooted in American exceptionalism, but is rooted is the fatal idea that everyone’s outcome is equal. No one succeeds, no one fails."

Pandemic offers chance to waive standardized tests, re-imagine education

"Education should be about growth and, unfortunately, standards limit said growth. How? If a history teacher teaches just the standards, many minority voices are muffled. But, if that teacher has the ability to teach in a classical framework, all of a sudden, the diversity of voices come roaring back into the classroom.
It is time to waive state testing for this year and return to the classical foundation upon which Western education is built. It is time to think deeper than the standards and allow teachers to close the learning gap created by the top heavy mandates."

Gay, transgender movements need a divorce

"But is the plight of the trans person the same as the gay or lesbian person? Are gay and transgender folks one and the same, or is there a good cause to argue that “L” & “G” should drop the “T” from their movement?

Make no mistake, the gay community needs to file for divorce with the trans community. They are no longer working toward the same goals, and South Dakota is Exhibit A. The issues facing the transgender community today are wholly different and separate from those facing the gay community."

Trump's Military Ban is Unfair, but Correct
Opposition to Trump's decision centers around fairness. In a culture conditioned by political correctness, it seems unfair to single out transgender service members just because of who they are. And frankly, the argument is correct; it is unfair.
As JFK noted, however, the military (like life) is never fair. It is the nature of the beast. The military is about success and preparedness; it is about national security and uniformity. The idea that the military can be part of a grand egalitarian utopia is not only pie-in-the-sky, it is a dangerous proposition that does little to keep America safe.

Red Hen's LGBT Employees should have made sure Sarah Huckabee Sanders got served

The decision to discriminate rather than dish up is what is at the heart of the Red Hen cluckfest. Whereas Martin Luther King, Jr. argued that “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” Wilkinson and the Red Hen modified that by adding, “Unless the injustice is directed to supporters and employees of President Donald Trump.” This is not only wrong; it is also a logic that cannot stand in a time when egalitarian notions rule the roost.

Mississippi's obsessed with homosexuality

"The law is a joke, a product of an unnatural obsession with gays that no amount of “Queer as Folk” binge watching can cure. The First Amendment has long protected the free exercise of religion and has served as an effective tool preventing government intrusion into matters of individual faith. But this bill goes further.

Arguably, this bill does not just protect religious practices; it protects how a person engages in commerce. Have a hotel and dislike gays? Now you can tell them there is no room at the inn.

The same goes for bakers, merchants, real estate agents and so on. Religious beliefs would provide a blank check to discriminate."

Trump's indictment of neoconservatism

"But what is neoconservatism? And why is there an opening for Trump to redefine the foreign policy of the GOP?

At its core, neoconservatism is an interventionist faith in which democracy serves as a golden calf. It holds that America’s foreign policy pursuits must be tied to democratist proselytizing, not national interests."

The Christian case against Cruz

"The Cruz campaign, thus, represents everything that is wrong with the tone of the modern-day Religious Right. Embedded in a man-made political theology that knows no gray, Cruz’s form of Christian conservatism offers an “us against them” mentality in which fellow countrymen who disagree are not just different, they are the cause of America’s impending damnation.

How do you have a civil debate when your opponent is viewed as having one foot in Gomorrah? How do you heal the nation when biblical blame is placed on those who do not share your theology?"

Beyond the delusion: Rubio's the past, Trump's the future

"When it comes to immigration, Trump wants a wall. Taking a page from Eisenhower, Trump plans to deport those in the nation illegally and reinforce Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents. Rubio, on the other hand, is accused of betraying such officers, just as Phyllis Schlafly accused him of betraying conservatives.

And while Rubio would like to compare finger size with Trump, Rubio's pondering about male endowment constitutes a lousy consolation prize to the Disney worker displaced by foreigners benefiting from the H-1B visas Rubio peddles."

Spare us the outrage at Tom Jones, LGBT community has become a racket

"The LGBT 'outrage' at Jones, thus, tells us more about the LGBT movement than it does Jones. Today, gay people have unprecedented rights. Civilised nations across the globe have either ushered in marriage equality or are in the process of doing so.

Do Third World nations still persecute gay folks? Sure. But they persecute tons of folks; it is why they are Third World nations."

How to achieve a Trump/GOP detente

"Trump is on track to get the GOP nomination and instead of plotting a brokered convention, the establishment should engage Trump on grounds he is intimately familiar with: negotiation.

As it stands now, Marco Rubio is the establishment kid. He is young, energetic and stands to broaden the GOP’s appeal among minorities. But to the GOP base, Rubio is still a Gang of 8 crony who cannot be trusted.

If the GOP approaches Trump with the proposal of putting Rubio on the ticket in exchange for a smooth convention/nomination, Trump would take it. If Reagan could take Bush, why couldn’t Trump take Rubio?"

How Trump killed the Religious Right

"So the endorsement of Falwell, which followed Sarah Palin’s, was putting Trump on solid ground. Afterwards, polls showed him leading in Iowa and in every other early primary contest. Frankly, if Jeb Bush had these numbers the political consensus would be this race is over.

So while it is clear why Trump pursued Falwell, the son of the Moral Majority founder, one has to ask why an iconic leader of the Religious Right would want to be associated with Trump?"
